Quality improvement in production and reducing the CO 2 footprint are priorities for our research and development projects. Here you can find a brief overview of our current projects.

Use of cullet
During a campaign in 2019 the addition of 20% PCR cullet (recycled consumer glass) in the flint glass furnace of our Austrian production site proved to save 6% energy and 10% CO 2 . Our goal is to increase as well the use of industrial cullet (PIR glass) on all sites.

Use of secondary raw materials
Within the Stoelzle Glass Group we increased the use of secondary raw materials between 2015 and 2019 from 5,000 tons per year to ~9,000 tons calumite/slag from steel production; biomass ash; soda ash.

Calumite®/Slag
Does not contain fixed CO 2 and thus significantly reduces the ecological footprint as well as the energy expenditure during melting. Blast furnace slag is available as a by-product of the steel industry. This homogeneous material has a positive effect on glass colour and quality.

The proprietary CAG Holding GmbH biomass plants produce over 10,000 tons of biomass ash. Stoelzle participates in international research projects and investigates the use of this secondary raw material in its glass production.

State-of-the-art glass laboratory
In the in-house glass laboratory, the quality of glass and raw materials can be precisely tested. We also use our laboratory as an experimental lab for research and development for the glass melt.

Process optimization
The collection and analysis of process data enables a more precise calibration of the manufacturing processes. We regularly evaluate and implement new technologies in the field of inspection machines and process automatization.

EcoSecur type 2 glass
In the past year we succeeded in developing an innovative, resource-efficient, safe and stable process for the production of type 2 glass. Our intention was to develop a new process for the inner treatment of soda-lime glass in order to overcome the main weaknesses of the currently existing processes in terms of stability, safety and from an ecological point of view. In addition, it was our aim to develop a process that is also suitable for smaller bottle sizes by enabling optimal dosage of the treatment. Learn more about our type 2 glass.

The “new radiating glass” is a new phosphorescent glass decoration technique. The colour changes according to the surrounding light. We offer day and night colour schemes.
